Who are you? What can you tell us about yourself?
I am the child of Filipino immigrants, born in Chicago and raised in the suburbs. Catholic education from kindergarten all the way through high school and involvement in my church, my faith is very much important to me. I’m also a very open person when it comes to being with friends, whether that be jamming out, watching a movie, or playing some ultimate frisbee, I’ll take any chance to take time to get to know and spending time with those I care about 🙂

Why did you join PSA and what made you stay?

I joined PSA firstly because the Filipino flag caught my eye on Quad Day my freshman year. Deeper than that, I yearned to learn about my roots, something that I didn’t really get growing up. Whether that be history or traditions, I took any opportunity I could get to expand my knowledge of who I was and my identity as a Filipino-American. What made me stay was not only the family and friends I made, but also how PSA shaped me as a person. Through learning of the multiple identities that I associate with, creating my own self as a leader, and deepening the many friendships I had gained, PSA developed and influenced me to be the person I am today.

Why did you become an officer and what plans do you have in store for PSA next year?

For this year, I decided to be an officer to help myself, the other officers, and our members, to grow to be the people we desire to be in college. PSA is a unique outlet here on campus to develop your identity whatever it may be. As President, I hope that our programming, my example as an overall person, and the examples of all those on board will instill positive growth to all those we encounter. What better way to grow than with other people!

What advice do you have for others?

Be yourself – as cliche as that is, college will expose you to many different perspectives and opinions. Don’t compromise your own morals and beliefs to fit in with the crowd or to gain more friends. Surround yourself with individuals who will love and respect your real self.
